Do you live in Fenland and interested in studying at the College of West Anglia for the 2022 - 2023 academic year? If so, you may be eligible for transport to CWA for a maximum of £100 for the year!
We are working with Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) and local bus providers to subsidise the cost of transport to help widen the options for young people in Fenland and help remove the financial barrier for parents/guardians. If you are eligible, you won't need to speak to the local authority or bus company as we will sort everything for you!
If you live in Fenland, have applied to the Wisbech campus (or King’s Lynn or Sports campuses, if the course is not offered at Wisbech) and live on a local bus route delivered by CCC, First Eastern Counties or Stagecoach (full details found below) you will be eligible for this offer and will only have to pay £100.
If your household income is below £30,000 per annual year, you will be eligible for our financial support scheme which will cover the full cost, leaving you with nothing to pay!
Is there a bus route where I live
If you live (or live in Fenland and can get to!) any of the below, Cambridgeshire County Council offer private buses to the Wisbech campus from:
Chatteris, Friday Bridge, Gorefield*, March, Murrow*, Tydd St. Giles*, Wimblington
*Please note that this bus is subject to demand.
If you live in Coldham, Elm, Friday Bridge, Leverington, March, Murrow, Newton, Tydd St. Giles or Wisbech and are going to either the King’s Lynn or Sports campuses (only if the course is not offered at Wisbech) will also be eligible for the offer on a private bus to the King’s Lynn campus.
The below public buses service Wisbech (and King’s Lynn, when mentioned) and, if you live in the town/village listed, you would be eligible for the offer.
First Eastern Counties – EXCEL (this bus services King’s Lynn).
XL | Guyhirn - Wisbech
First Eastern Counties offer a great service for our students as they can have unlimited travel between Peterborough – Norwich throughout their course, including evening and weekends. The bus stops at the bus station and does not go to the campus.
46 | Tydd St. Giles – Newton – Parsons Drove – Leverington – Murrow – Guyhirn – Wisbech St. Mary
This bus stops at the Horse Fair and does not go to the campus. You can use a Stagecoach pass on this bus at any point during college hours.
What about learners with an Educational Health & Care Plan?
If you have an Education, Health & Care Plan and require a taxi (because you are not an independent traveller), you will need to meet Cambridgeshire County Council’s eligibility criteria to use our offer. More information on the criteria can be found here.
What if my household income is below £30,000 per year?
If your household income is below £30,000 per year, you will be entitled to our financial support scheme which will cover the full cost of transport as well as contribute towards other costs related to study (for example, equipment and resource fees). For more information, click here.
Full terms and conditions
To be eligible for the reduced price of £100, you must:
- Live in Fenland on one of the bus routes (or meet the council’s EHCP criteria)
- Attend our Wisbech campus (or King’s Lynn/Sport campuses if your chosen course is not offered at Wisbech)
If you are not eligible for financial support, £100 must be paid for you to receive a bus pass. After payment, your pass will be sent to your home address (or further information will be emailed to you).
If you would prefer a public route (with First or Stagecoach), we will order this once you have completed your enrolment.
Payment is non-refundable.
How do I apply for the subsidy?
Current students (course started in Sept 2021)
Applications for the subsidy are made online.
You will need to make an application on our financial support portal. We do this just to confirm that you are not eligible for financial support - if you are not eligible, you'll probably answer 'no' to most of the questions.
To start using the portal, choose the academic year (September 21/22) and follow the instructions to create an account using your student number. You will then be sent an email to verify your account and start your application.
Once you've completed your application, you will then be contacted to make the payment of £100 on our online store (once we've confirmed that you are not eligible for financial support).
You can only apply for the CWA Travel Subsidy once you have been offered a place on a course. If you have not yet applied for a course, please visit our courses page to choose a course and apply online.
Prospective students (courses starting from Sept 2022)
You will be able to complete an application for the subsidy in May 2022. We will contact all of our applicants from Fenland as soon as it is available to apply for. You can only apply for the CWA Travel Subsidy once you have been offered a place on a course. If you have not yet applied for a course, please visit our courses page to choose a course and apply online.
